Planning Commission

Minutes from the public hearing on zoning changes are posted.

The Elmore Planning Commission works diligently to assure that the character and quality of living in this “Beauty Spot of Vermont” will continue well into the future.

Work needed to document our ancient roads was completed under deadline in 2011.

The Commission members worked on and completed the creation of the town’s first ordinance with regard to Outdoor Junk and Junk Storage. The draft version was forwarded to the Select Board, for review.  The ordinance was approved and adopted by the town in 2011.

The EPC has studied and examined Fluvial Erosion and Flood Hazard requirements. Draft changes to the Zoning Bylaws to address these two areas are completed.   This work still needs to be reviewed and approved by the select board to ensure that we will be in full compliance with expected new regulatory requirements before they are finalized.

With grant funding from the VT Department of Economic, Housing, and Community Development the commission worked on updating the Town Plan, as required by the state, to be done every five years.  We began the work at our February 2012 meeting.  We were assisted and guided through the process with help from Lamoille County Planning Commission (LCPC) staff members.  A public hearing was held in May 2013.  Comments from the public hearing are available on the web site. The Select Board approved the updated plan in September 2013.

The Elmore Planning Commission sponsored a discussion/workshop on Wildlife and Landscape Connectivity. The PowerPoint slides from the presentation are now available. Be aware – it’s a large file (10MB).

The Elmore Planning Commission is currently working to update the town’s zoning bylaws and subdivision regulations. The state of Vermont has recently revised the Shoreland Regulations, which became effective on July 1, 2014. The EPC will include these guidelines, and how they pertain to our own lake, in the zoning bylaws.

Community members are welcome and encouraged to attend  the EPC meetings, which are held on the third Wednesday of the month, at the Town Clerk’s Office at 6 p.m., or to leave their written comment with the Town Clerk for our review at the monthly meetings.

Meeting minutes, as well as documents, are available on the town’s web site.
